Ponies have been part of our family for generations, from working the fields to simply being our fluffy companions, they’ve always had a place in our hearts and lives.
But as we grew out of pony club games and sparkly browbands, people kept asking, “So what will you do with them now?” The answer was simple: Exactly what we’ve always done—love them.
Searching for a yard that embraced this lifelong bond, we realised something was missing: A place where ponies were more than a phase, where no one “outgrows” their love for them. So we created it.
Little Nags Stables is that place—a haven for equestrians who simply want to enjoy their ponies, whether for competition, breeding, or just for the joy of having them in their lives.
‘For the Love of Ponies—Forever’

Having grown up on a farm, I was fortunate to receive my first pony “Blackie” at the young age of 5. This spirited little character, full of “spice” as we call it these days, certainly tested my patience during our early days together. Fast forward 40 years, and I'm still captivated by ponies. I've dedicated my life to cherishing the vibrant personalities packed into those small frames we affectionately call ponies. Standing at 5'2", I've never felt the urge to "grow up" and have happily continued to live out my childhood dream throughout my life.
From the moment I was born into the world of ponies, I can't recall a time when they weren't a part of my life. From the moment I was born into the world of ponies, I can't recall a time when they weren't a part of my life. I was lucky to have my first pony, "Milford Fancy That," when I was just five years old, and I've never looked back since. Together with my little sister, I participated in a few local shows, enjoyed leisurely rides, and most importantly, spent countless hours just pottering around at the stables.
Now, 24 years later, it's still the little moments that bring me the greatest joy: the soft morning nickers as they eagerly await breakfast, the way they relax when you find that perfect scratch, and their adorable, cheeky expressions.
Ponies have been woven into the fabric of my life for as long as I can remember. My first pony, Matty—a cheeky little Shetland mare—brought me immeasurable joy, even when I was just three years old. Ponies have been woven into the fabric of my life for as long as I can remember. My first pony, Matty—a cheeky little Shetland mare—brought me immeasurable joy, even when I was just three years old. Looking back, my first ponies were often as round as they were tall, like something straight out of "Chatter Happy", always full of mischief and character.
As I grew, so did my love for these incredible creatures. What started as childhood fun evolved into a deep appreciation for their unique personalities, quirks, and unwavering companionship. Ponies aren’t just animals; they’re friends, teachers, and lifelong partners in adventure. They’ve shaped my journey in ways I never could have imagined, leading me to create a place where others can experience that same joy.
Every yard has a wise old soul, and for us, that’s our beloved Major. Once a magnificent Highland stallion, Major had an incredible career in the show ring, turning heads with his impeccable breeding, stunning presence, and undeniable charm. But his greatest achievement wasn’t in the ribbons he won—it was in the hearts he touched.
In his later years, he swapped the spotlight for something even more special: teaching the next generation. With endless patience and a heart of gold, he introduced countless little riders to the joy of ponies, giving them their first wobbly trots and confidence-building canters.
Now in his well-earned retirement, Major has embraced the “distinguished gentleman” phase of life—a little rounder, a little slower, and a lot more fond of a good snooze in the sunshine. He may no longer be leading victory laps, but he’s still the undisputed king of the yard, ruling with kindness and a soft nose always ready for a cuddle.
We adore him just as much now as we did in his prime—because true legends never fade, they just get a little fluffier.
As the original pony of our herd, she’s been with us since she was a yearling, watching over the yard with her signature mix of grace, entitlement, and just the right amount of sass.
Nessie has always known her worth. She believes in deep, fluffy beds, sunshine-worshipping, and a life free of unnecessary exertion—unless, of course, another pony dares to get ahead of her out hacking. Then, and only then, will she pick up the pace. She’ll even pop a few jumps, but let’s not get carried away—she has standards, and nothing too high, please.
People joke that her frosty, no-nonsense attitude comes from her owner, Zena, but we know the truth—she’s simply a mare who expects the best and isn’t afraid to demand it. And honestly? We wouldn’t have her any other way.
She’s a true joy, a one-of-a-kind character, and the undeniable queen of Little Nags.
If there’s one pony on the yard who lives for cuddles and thrives on attention, it’s Notty. This mini cob with a big personality started her journey as a little kids’ pony, but as she grew (and grew a little more), she found herself in need of a new role. Luckily, she landed the best one yet—being Belle’s incredible all-rounder and the ultimate best friend.
Notty is the kind of pony who always wants to please. Whether she’s popping over jumps, heading out on an adventure, or just soaking up the fuss, she does it all with her signature sweet nature and willing attitude. She’s the first to the gate to say hello, the last to leave when treats are being handed out, and the pony that makes every day feel like a good one.
She may have outgrown her tiny jockeys, but she’s found her perfect place in Belle’s heart—and in the heart of the whole yard. Because ponies like Notty aren’t just ridden, they’re cherished.
Some ponies arrive into our lives as a blessing, and Iris is exactly that. Rescued from a tough start, she comes from a line of ponies who had never known kindness, softness, or even a gentle touch. But despite her past, Iris has blossomed into a pony with a quiet strength and a heart full of warmth.
Best known for her striking blue eyes, she has an almost mystical presence—always watching, always aware. In the field, she’s the gentle guide of the herd, instinctively leading them with a wisdom beyond her years. She’s the first to sense when another pony needs comfort and the last to leave when there’s an adventure to be had.
Iris is proof that love, patience, and kindness can transform even the most guarded of souls. She may have come from hardship, but today, she stands proud as a beloved part of our family, showing us all that the past doesn’t define you—it’s what you grow into that truly matters.
If there’s mischief to be made, you can bet Lizzie is leading the charge. This three-year-old Haflinger may have the soul of a golden retriever, but she also has the body of a giant and the curiosity of a detective—a combination that keeps us on our toes every single day.
She’s always the first to say hello, the first to poke her nose into anything new, and absolutely the first to find trouble. Whether she’s breaking into the feed room, staging midnight adventures into our old neighbour’s garden, or just rearranging everything in sight, if there’s chaos, Lizzie was there.
But despite her antics, she’s an absolute darling—loving, playful, and utterly impossible to stay mad at. Her big heart and boundless enthusiasm make her a joy to have around, and honestly, we wouldn’t change a thing.
Because a yard without Lizzie? Would be far too quiet.
Some ponies are born special, and Astra has always known she’s destined for greatness. Imported from Slovenia as a yearling alongside Lizzie, this nearly three-year-old Haflinger carries herself with an air of royalty, entitlement, and just a touch of mischief—because why shouldn’t the world revolve around her?
Astra is always watching, always plotting, usually lurking at the edge of the herd, waiting for the perfect moment to launch a cheeky ambush on an unsuspecting herd mate. She’s the first to investigate anything new, whether it’s a visitor, a bucket, or something that absolutely should not be chewed (but will be anyway).
We joke that she’s the reincarnation of Candy, our fox-like Chihuahua who also demanded the best and got it. Like Candy, Astra is small but mighty, completely convinced that the world exists for her enjoyment—and honestly? We’re not going to argue.
Because when you’re this charming, this bold, and this utterly fabulous, why would you ever settle for less?
